101 Reykjavik

"This is a wonderful black comedy...One of the best films I've seen in months - it will leave you smiling to yourself all day" - insideoutfilm.co.uk. 101 Reykjavik by Baltasar Kormakur is based on Hallgrimur Helgason's controversial novel. The central character of the film i Hlynur, an unemployed cynic in his late twenties who still lives with his mother in a little apartment in 101 Reykjavik, the old downtown quarter of Iceland's capital. His only real interest in life is cruising the wild city nightlife with his friends. His mother befriends Lola, a Spanish flamenco teacher who moves in with them. A peculiar love triangle develops and Hlynur's involvement with his mother's lesbian lover brings this otherwise pathetic character to the brink of despair. Hlynur's outrageous family background sets the tone for the cutting black humour that pervades the film from start to finish. Featuring Victoria Abril, Hilmir Snaer Gudnason and more. Extra material: French dubbing, subtitles in Icelandic, English, German, French and Norwegian. Trailer, Making of..., Interview with Baltasar Kormakur, commentary, Poster gallery, Photo gallery.
