We have produced eiderdown duvets since 1957, and many duvets from those early years of production are still in use!
The duvet is hand sewn using only finest down-proof Egyptian cotton.
The eider is a large, arctic duck (somateria mollissima). Every spring the eider returns ashore from its habitat, the North Atlantic ocean, makes a nest in special sanctuaries that are maintained by farmers in Iceland. This special relationship between farmers and the eider duck insures that the birds are never harmed; the down is only collected by hand after they are finished nesting and have continued on their annual migration. The down left behind, comes only from female, fully grown, live birds. This makes it always mature and uniform. In each nest there is about 17 gram (3/5 oz) of grey, very light down.
