The four part General Maps to the scale of 1:300.000 are an innovative set of maps, dividing the country into four equal parts. All the maps overlap, so that e.g. the Snaefellsnes peninsula is both on the southwest and northwest sheet. The maps include up-to-date information on the road network, campsites, swimming pools and museums. On the reverse of the maps are details and color photographs together with a table of road distances. All text in Icelandic, English, German and French. The Mal & Menning's General Maps were nominated best cartographic map series in the world at an international GIS congress in 1999.
