The Icelandic Horse was brought to Iceland with the Viking settlers in late 800s. The breed is considered small but they are very strong for their size and can carry roughly one-third of their weight. Due to their size they are often called "Icelandic ponies" but within Iceland it is considered disparaging and inappropriate.
