When prince Sigurður's and princess Líneik's mother dies the king, their father, remarries. They get not only a stepmother, but also a stepsister, Laufey. The new queen, who is wicked and ruthless, quickly gets rid of the king, and the prince and princess go into hiding. Then a handsome young prince appears and asks for Líneik's hand in marriage, but is promised Laufey instead and told she is Líneik. But as in all the best fairy tale everything turns out well and good wins over evil. This well known Icelandic fairy tale is retold and beautifully illustrated by Ragnheiður Gestsdóttir.
