Northwest Iceland History & Heritage Map is richly illustrated and with text boxes on the front (roads and road numbers as well). Texts and beautiful photographs from the northwest on the back. In the mid 20th century the town of Siglufjörður in the northwest became the most famous herring port in the world. Many of the best preserved Icelandic turf buildings from 18th and 19th century are to be found in Skagafjörður. The area is also known for many thoroughbred Icelandic horses and good salmon rivers.
The map introduces the history and heritage of Northwest Iceland from the settlement in the 9th century up to the 20th century. The map also introduce the inhabitants’ way of life, the legends and birdlife of the area, seals, plants in the Icelandic diet, Icelandic chicken and tourism in Northwest Iceland.
