Introduction

When I decided to write this book I had in mind my own childhood, growing up in Iceland wondering what the rest of the world was like. Seeing pictures and images of faraway lands fueled my appetite to know more about the people, cultures and customs of places I would one day visit in adulthood.
This is a journey for children of all ages to explore the enchantment of our world as seen through the eyes of Rikka and her friend as they get transported through space and time by her magic ring with beautiful illustrations conveying a sense of fun to their expedition. It is an educational tale of adventure encompassing geography, history, culture and the environment and an awareness of why we should look after it for future generations.
This book takes the reader through all that makes Iceland such a wonderful and exhilarating place for children to visit and if it creates a desire for them to visit this country in later life, it will have fulfilled its purpose and made them more aware of the different cultures and customs that makes this world such an exciting place.
Part of the proceeds of the book will be donated to the Kids Parliament charity whose objective is to create a world where children want to live, where respect of human rights and the environment is certain, where equal chances without discrimination are given to all and where economic justice can best be won by free and ethical entrepreneurship regardless of race or creed. www.kidsparliament.org
